Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Fitness For A Trek

Better your physical condition is, the more you will enjoy a trek. You do not have to undergo a rigorous training program, just do as much walking as you can up and down hills, up (and down) stairs in your office. Take weekend hikes in the mountains. Walk to work. Jogging and cycling are useful training for a trekking. Whenever possible, make your hikes in the same shoes that you will use for the trekking. You carry a day pack, camera, water bottle, pullover and whatever you think you may need during the day. The most important aspect is to have a positive mental attitude.

An Average Trek Day
A cup of tea is served at your tent/lodge room in the morning. This is followed by a bowl of water to wash. Pack your kit bag before you head for breakfast. The porters will carry it to the next camp. The walk after breakfast is usually of 3-4 hours. Stop for lunch and take a rest and then walk another 2-3 hours to the camp site/lodge. Tea and biscuits are provided while the camp is established/lodge room is arranged and preparation for dinner begins, while you have some time to yourself. We encourage members to walk at their own pace. There will usually be a guide to bring up the rear. In average you walk for about 6 to 7 hours on a trek per day.

Trip Grade
All tour itineraries are suitable for all age groups but trek itineraries are designed and classified according to their difficulty and duration. Trek days are planned carefully so that you have time to stand and stare as well as acclimatize to the high altitudes. The later is most important since altitude sickness can not only ruin your holiday but prove fatal as well.

Easy: 5 or 6 hours of walking up & down in your pace through hills upto 3000m of altitude, about 10km per day for a week.

Moderate: About 7 hours of walking up & down in your pace through hill and on snowline upto 5000m of altitude, about 10 to 15 km per day for about two weeks.

Tough: 7 or 8 hours of walking up & down in your pace through high passes exceed 5000m of altitude, about 10 to 15 km per day for about three weeks. Physically preparation is most important as the route involves trekking above snowline and on glaciers for which you must be fully equipped with complete sets of climbing equipment.

Challenging This includes basic mountaineering, climbing trekking peaks, normally 8 hours of walking and climbing per day on 4000 meters and few days through high passes of beyond 5000 meters, physically preparation is must required with previous experience of climbing is an advantage. Complete sets of climbing equipment- ropes, ice-axe, crampon etc are needed.

Season
There are four seasons in Nepal as under and each season has its own distinct attraction to offer.

Autumn: September through November. This season offers excellent weather and tantalizing mountain views.

Winter: December through February. This season is noted for occasional snowfall only at higher elevations. Hence, it is ideal for trekking at lower elevation, generally below 3000m.

Spring: March through May. Different varieties of wild flowers, especially Rhododendrons make the hillside above 5000m a haunting paradise during the season. It is mildly warm at lower elevations and at higher elevation over 4000m, the mountain views are excellent and temperature is quite moderate.

Monsoon: June through August. Summer months continues up to mid September making travel wet and warm. This time is a blessing for the keen botanist as the higher valleys and meadows blossom with flowers and lush vegetation. It is recommended to carry insect repellents when trekking during summer months. Trekking into the rain shadow region, behind the high mountains and tour to Tibet will be a wonderful experience.
